Downtown Calgary

I have served as the Church Planting Pastor at here at First for almost 5 months now. It has been a great joy to get to know many of you and to jump on this journey to discover what “church planting” means for our church. I continue to be amazed at the excitement level for Vision 2020 and what God is doing in our midst. That excitement certainly extends to starting new churches here in DFW and around the world. I can tell you that many great things are happening and I look forward to sharing these updates with you as things develop. My hope is that the information you read in these blogs will help you to pray. Many things in life drive us to our knees more often than normal but I can tell you from experience that planting churches is definitely one of them. Please intercede on behalf of these works that we are involved in. Also, I pray that these updates cause you ask the Father how you can be involved and then jump in. It will take our entire church body laboring together and sacrificing our time, money, and talents to see Vision 2020 become a reality.

Back in February, my wife and I were asked to share about Canada in the 4th and 5th grade Wednesday Night Live missions class. We had spent the last 6 years ministering in the Calgary area. When we arrived in the class I found out from the kids that they had been learning about and praying for the church planters in Calgary. They named many of the people I had worked with so closely for the last couple of years! It was neat to see God developing a heart for Calgary in our kids before my wife and I even had a chance to share. Now, a few months later, we have entered a partnership that could have tremendous impact in the very heart of one of Canada’s most influential cities.

In partnership with 9 other churches in the United States and the greater Calgary area, we are supporting a team of 3 young couples and 1 single adult who are living their lives on mission in a section of downtown Calgary called East Village. Their vision is to establish a network of multiplying kingdom churches all over the downtown core. East Village is in major transition from being a forgotten, crime ridden part of the city to being the center of commerce and culture for the whole city. Our team will be some of the very first new residents in East Village. They will simply live life and build community with each other inviting others along the way. Their mission is to multiply disciples, multiply leaders, and multiply groups. From there, leaders will make decisions about when and how to establish a church.

We will be sending teams there throughout the year to simply serve people. Our objective will be to put trust in the bank account of our full time team so that their message of the gospel will fall on fertile soil. Our first trip is this October 19-25. This trip will be for older youth and adults. Be on the lookout for more details and an interest meeting soon.

If you have questions about Calgary, Ecuador, Euless, or any of our other developing church planting works, please call or email. These are exciting times! Don’t miss out on the fun!
